Laila was involved in volleyball, as well as the Fall Play and Spring Musicals during her time at Cardinal High School. Outside of school, she attended Auburn Career Center for the Interactive Multimedia Technology program.
Her favorite high school memory was her first time performing as part of the ensemble in the Spring Musical of 2023—a moment that sparked lasting joy and confidence on stage.

We asked our amazing educators why they became teachers and what advice they’d give to first-year teachers. Here's what Mrs. Butler had to say:
Why did you become a teacher?: "I became a speech teacher/therapist because I’ve always been fascinated by how communication skills could build confidence and open doors, and I wanted to help others develop that skill. Teaching communication skills allows me to combine my love for language with a desire to empower students to express themselves clearly and confidently."
My advice to new teachers: "My advice to a new speech teacher/therapist would be: focus on creating a safe, supportive environment where students feel confident. Many students fear communicating and/or public speaking, so your encouragement is just as important as your instruction. Also, remember that improvement takes time—celebrate small victories and goals met. You’re not just teaching them how to speak—you’re helping them find the confidence for their voices to be heard."

Why did you become a teacher?
"I always loved being in school and had the greatest school experience. I became a teacher to help kids also have an awesome experience. I found my love for math from Mr. Hall (former Cardinal principal), my high school Geometry teacher."
My advice to new teachers:
"It gets better. The first year is rough. You learn lots of things. Pick one thing to do well and then work on something the next year. After a few years, everything will run super smooth.
