We asked our amazing educators why they became teachers and what advice they’d give to first-year teachers. Here’s what Ms. Stotts had to say:
Why did you become a teacher? -
"The reason I started and the reason I stayed are not the same. I started because I wanted a big family, and the school calendar is family-friendly. I stayed because I enjoyed the interactions with students."
My advice to new teachers:
"Prioritize your own well-being. You can't pour from an empty cup."
Thank you, Ms. Stotts, for inspiring our students and making a difference every day! 🍎💛#TeacherAppreciationWeek #ThankATeacher #HuskiePride

We asked our amazing educators why they became teachers and what advice they’d give to first-year teachers. Here’s what Mrs. Dyer had to say:
Why did you become a teacher? -"One reason I became a teacher was because of the positive influences of the teachers I had throughout school. Going all the way back to kindergarten (shout out to Mrs. Germaine!), I LOVED being at school and learning, and that was because of the teachers. I wanted to have that same impact on my own students and make their time at school in my classroom both memorable and meaningful. It’s important to me to build long-lasting relationships with my students, creating a classroom where they feel safe, valued, and supported. Another reason I became a teacher is because it’s a role that combines creativity, patience, empathy, and a desire to help others succeed. The field of education is constantly evolving, and although it’s challenging at times, I wouldn’t want to do anything else!"
My advice to new teachers? -"My advice to new teachers would be, first and foremost, to build relationships with your students. Take time to understand their strengths, interests, and challenges. The more you know them, the better you can engage with and support their learning. Establish trust and respect: Show empathy, be patient, and maintain consistency. Students are more likely to thrive when they feel valued and understood. Another piece of advice is to not be afraid to ask for help and to give yourself lots of grace at the beginning of your career. You will have triumphs and failures, and both are okay! Being a teacher is about constantly evolving and reflecting. The first year (or even the first few years) can feel like a steep learning curve. Don’t expect to have everything figured out immediately. Growth as a teacher takes time, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn and improve. You will eventually fall into your rhythm and gain confidence!"
Thank you, Mrs. Dyer, for inspiring our students and making a difference every day! 🍎💛#TeacherAppreciationWeek #ThankATeacher #HuskiePride
